Library Olympics

In the spirit of the Olympic Games and library week, we held a ‘Library Olympics’ for all student librarians that were interested. Several of the juniors participated in them and almost everyone won a prize ranging from small fun sized chocolates to the new Cherub book “The General”
The competition involved estimating the time it would take to correctly shelve 6 books while wearing thick wool lined gloves before attempting to get as close to your estimated time as possible. Estimations ran from under a minute to 6 - 8 months (Martin who was also quoted asking “Can you like throw the books into the shelves?”).The record for fastest time was set by Betty with a time of 59 seconds and the longest by Bradley at over 2 minutes.

The second competition was wheeling a trolley around an obstacle course. This was judged on originality and one of the prize winners – Bradley, has been quoted saying “What obstacles” in reference to his tactic of collecting said obstacles. Others won prizes for completing the whole obstacle course without hitting a single obstacle – this was considered a clear round and was won by Sharon and for being the most original.

The three medal winners were Valerie in third place, Betty in second and myself in first. However whether you were placed in the top three or you won a small prize, everyone involved enjoyed themselves and it was a great way to unwind from the stress of school life.
