Little Miss Sunshine Movie Review

A funny funny funny film is the film with the most dysfunctional family I have ever seen is Little Miss Sunshine. It will make you feel sorry for the family in this film since they have a lot of problems and all of them are addicted to something. The plot is that they have to travel to californa from alberqurque (please excuse me if this is spelt wrong) for a beauty contests for 7 year olds for the yougest member in the family Olive. I think the moral is that judgeing little girls in beauty contests by putting make up on them and putting them in bikinis and even tan spray them is just creepy and wrong. I think I could not breath because I was laughing so hard but at the same time I was feeling sorry for the most dysfunctional family in the world. So in conclusion, very funny film but will make feel sorry for the family.

Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex

Yet another Artemis Fowl, yet more delighted fans. But unfortunatly, its like how Shadow Wave was to cherub. Its like the raditz of the group, the short straw, The godfather 3, the terminator 3. modest, but not great. the story line is pretty much filler, and not much action. It is about artemis who gets the atlantis complex, which drives an alternate (nice) personality out of him, trapping in himside himself. yeah, its as boring as it sounds.....

Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday book

The cover looks enticing. For those who don't know,Calvin and Hobbes is a great American comic series which has deep messages related mainly to politics and life. This one in particular is full of great and entertaining comic strips.my favourite one,"Calvin, what do you mean, remember the car?"
I highly recommend this great book.

Angels and Demons Movie Review

When it comes to bad movies Angels and Demons is definitly not in that catagory. It is one of those films that will make you feel smart if you like to reasearch history. Its has a complicated plot that would make you go on the internet to try and make yourself understand what happed in the film. It is a mature film, a film for older people who would find it easy to understand films with a complicated story line, those younger would have to listin very hard to what the people are saying to understand it. The music is not a song that the younger generation of people are listining to like Ke$ha or Taylor Swift, it is mostly church music and movie music (music you would find in any movie you watch). So in conclusion, a complicated film that is more suitable to older people.

shadow wave review

shadow wave is the last book with james adams as the man hero however it is belived to be the last cherub book EVER!! Which kind of sucks.
The book is manliy about kyles flash back. He and james go on there last mission and it turns out to contain noting and has a massive anticlimax. One of the worst books on the series but good to finish the serries. read if you have read the others.

The stuff of nightmares

Well it has been a good break, but it's over now. A good book to read in-between classes is "The stuff of nightmares" by Malorie Blackman. It starts off by painting a picture of a boy whose life is in turmoil, and his class going on a trip to an un-named city. It turns into a collection of nightmare based short stories. This is an incredibly well written book, with the short stories linking back to a main story, eventually reaching a stunning climax. If you read this it will haunt your dreams for eternity.

Yours terrifyingly, LB

Red Pyramid

Rick Riordan has done it again, the creater of Percy Jackson has created a new brilliant series, "The Kane Chronicles". The first in this series is "The Red Pyramid", we have it in the library now. Julius Kane goes to London with his son, Carter, and his daughter, Sadie, to visit the British Museum for a "research experiment" on the Rosetta Stone, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian God, Set, who banishes him to Duat and forces the children to flee for their lives, in the process, creating a huge explosion. However, the Rosetta Stone is completely unharmed.

Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the Gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them, Set, has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe, a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.
L.R.

Anyone know that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was a trilogy? I didn't, then I found that it is six books long. How can a trilogy have six books? It doesn't make any sense! Good books though. I just read the second book, it continues the adventures of Arthur, Ford, Trillian and Zaphod Beeblebrox. The Vogons are chasing them under the instruction of a mysterious psychiatrist. With the book starting with the group in a seance while enemy ships close in, it can be a fast paced book. With so many plot twists and nearly nonsensical moments it could make your head spin, this isn't a book for everyone. If you liked the first book, you will love " The restaurant at the end of the universe".

The Book Thief

The Book Thief is set in Germany before and during World War II. The story is told from the point of veiw of Death, who narrates the story and gives a whole new image to the "death" image we the people see. Death finds the story of the book thief Liesel Meminger. Liesels story begins when she and her brother who dies in a sudden spur of coughing while travelling on the train, are sent to a foster home by their communist mother when she is interned in Dachau concentration camp. She later arrives at the home of the foster parents. Hans and Rosa Hubberman near Munich at Himmel Street (Himmel is the German word for Heaven). They treat her well although Rosa swears fiercely to cover up her inner lying compassion. Liesel than meets Rudy Steiner, a neighbour of her own age who becomes her best friend. Rudy is well known in the neighborhood for his romp around the Hubert Oval track as his idol Jesse Owens, covered in charcoal. Rudy and Liesels relationship steadily becomes more romantic over the years and Rudy continually asks Liesel for a kiss. Liesel learns to read and begins stealing books. Max, a 24 year old Jewish man that the Hubberman family helps to hide, composes his experiences with Liesel in a series of sketches, as well as two homemade books.

This book is commomly thought of as a "Modern Tragedy" as it displays many of the key features. First and Formost the story is narrated by a chorus (in this case "death") , it revolves around ordinary working class people (exploring the suffering or clashes within families) and a sense of catharsis at the end of the book.

A Life of Order's.

Lamplighter, book Two of the Monster Blood Tattoo Trilogy by D.M.Cornish.

"A rever-man below us, sir! A rever-man in the tunnels underneath!"

Rossamund Bookchild is finally becoming a Lamplighter. He is becoming one of those hardy men sworn to light the lamps of the empire and protect travellers from ravenous bogles from the wild.

But Rossamund is still finding it hard to fit in, he has a girls name and he is small for his age and as a consequence is good at nothing but the strange chemistry of his world. This of course means he is the constant butt of jokes from his fellow trainees, none of them are his friends and the teachers yell at him often. On top of it all, learning how to light lamps is boring, not at all the adventurous life he was promised.

Rossamund is lonely......

....... And then Threnody arrives in a most dramatic fashion....

Lamplighter's world is unique, it is a world loosely based on 18th century England where the mechanical has been replaced by bio-mechanics and monsters are born from the mud. Although not as ordered as the first book, lamplighter contains a lot more detail of the world and it's people (it's more interesting). A good page turner, enjoy.

A Sad Birthday.

Shades Children by Garth Nix.

"most (children) don't have the guts to slice open their own wrist, to reach in and pull the capsule out from where it nestles between veins and bone. "

One day, now long in the past, all humans over the age of 14 disappear, never to return......

In their place, arrive the tyrant overlords and several freakish hoards of creatures from an alternate dimension. All the children are rounded up and placed in dormitories, there to be trained and raised.

At the dawn of their fourteenth year, upon their sad birthday they are sent to the meat factory where their muscles, brains and bones are transformed into yet more creatures for the overlords to use in their senseless bloody battles.

Gold-eyes a boy nearing his sad birthday manages to obtain a razor. After a grisly and painful removal of his tracking capsule he escapes in a desperate ploy to extend his life. He finds ruined buildings, constant danger from the creature and finally he finds Shade.

Shade, a cold cruel and calculating computer program, once a university professor now the last hope of the escapees. However the food he provides is not for free, he requires information on the overlords and such information is costing lives at an inhuman rate.

Shade's children is dark. Dark in the story it tells, dark in its ruined streets and dark in its disfigured characters. It is refreshing to me to read such a story, one without cute little bunnies and fairytale characters, Shades Children is real in its darkness and original in its ideas.

A decent book I give it three out of five.

Daughter of the Clayr?

Lirael By Garth Nix Part Two of the Old kingdom Trilogy.

"It opened it's eyes and they were silver fires, brighter and more terrible than anything Lirael had ever seen."

For every Clayr there comes a time around their twelfth birthday when they receive the ability of true sight, this enables the Clayr to watch over the entire old kingdom. For Lirael the sight is two years overdue leaving her feeling abandoned, alone and unsure of who she is.

She eventually joins the ranks of the librarians. While working in this surprisingly dangerous environment she manages to summon the Disreputable Dog. Together Lirael and the Disreputable Dog explore the library of the Clayr and in the process find out some interesting things about Lirael.

Eventually Lirael's explorations lead her on a journey to find herself that turns into a journey to save the living of the world.

Lirael is a good page turner with one of the best sidekicks ever (the Disreputable Dog) however it ends weakly necessitating the reading of Abhorsen to tie off unending plot lines. A welcome taste of The Old Kingdom.

Blood on Stone.

Sabriel by Garth Nix part one of the Old Kingdom trilogy.

"The bell was twisting in her grasp, trying to sound of its own accord, a sound that would make her walk in Death."

In ages past a wall was made from blood, stone and charter magic to separate two kingdoms from one another.

In Ancelstierre there are cops, cars and cameras. People are born, people go to school, people work and people die and that is their end. It is a land ruled by science.

In the old kingdom there are Charter-stones, carriages and crossbows. People are born, people work and people die but not always forever. It is a land ruled by magic. It is a land ruled by death.

Sabriel is a sixth form schoolgirl in Ancelstierre, she is pretty, smart and privileged. Her father is a necromancer. Her father is the Abhorsen one of the few dedicated to quieting the restless dead of the old kingdom.

When her father goes missing she takes up his bells and sword (tools of necromancy) and sets off into the Old Kingdom in an effort to find him. soon she is fighting for the survival of the charter itself.

This is the start of a very original seres with a new magic system and a very real main charactor. It is so good my sister is reading it! (that is rare FYI) I certainly enjoyed it.

There and back again by Bilbo Baggins

The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkin.

"Sorry! I don't want any adventures, thank you. Not today. Good morning! But please come to tea- any time you like! Why not tomorrow? Come tomorrow! Good bye!"

Chapter one: An Unexpected Party

In which the hero of the story Mr Bilbo Baggins entertains a large number of almost uninvited and certainly unexpected guests.
During the course of the most unusual and stressful party poor Bilbo finds himself and a company of dwarves swept up into one of Gandalf''s "Adventures" . A long and dangerous trek through wild lands followed (hopefully) by an attempt at the hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon...
The Hobbit is the King of adventure stories perhaps superseded only by its sequel "The Lord of the Rings".
The Hobbit's twists, turns, circles loops and above all its straightforwardness lead the reader into the unique world of middle-earth. It is perhaps best read at bedtime to a small child a chapter at a time as it was read to me and my brothers. I hope you enjoy it as much as i did.
